Let me introduce myself. My name is Alena Karol. I’m 37 and 35 years of my life I can’t walk. When I was very little the first symptoms of my disease SMA (Spinal Muscular Alrophy) appeared.
My muscles stopped developing, and with every day of my life I become weaker and weaker. First I stopped walking, then, when I was a teenager I’ve got such a disease like scoliosis. My weakening muscles couldn’t hold my growing body and as a result of it my spine changed in shape and bent. Then the muscles of my hands began to weaken too. Now if I want to take a cup of tea, I should hold it only with two hands.
But my most painful problem is scoliosis. My inner organs are pressed and a result of it my heart is gripped, one of my lungs almost doesn’t work, my kidneys are displaced, the left kidney is seen and felt under the ribs in my belly. My stomach and gullet are twisted, that’s why the food is kept in my stomach for too long and it causes terrible ulcers. And not once I was on the brink of death because of ulcers in my stomach.
I know that my main disease is not treated, but there is some hope and chance to treat my scoliosis. On the 17th of October 2015 Doctor Alex Popov at the SHAARE ZEDEK MEDICAL CENTER from JERUSALEM consulted me and the decision was made to carry out the operation on implantation of titanium construction into my spinal. This construction will help partially straighten and fix my spine and it won’t change its shape and longer. The operation will help my inner organs (heart, lungs, stomach, kidneys) not to be always pressed, because it gives me a terrible pain and discomfort.
I have never asked anybody to help me. On the contrary I if it only was possible always helped other people. But at the moment I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP. The operation costs 200.000 shekels that is about 53.000 dollars. (this sum of money doesn’t include the flight, accommodation and food).
